What do you want from your doctor?

Of course you just want to get rid of the pain, rash or whatever symptoms you have, but are you just as curious about the underlying cause?

If you think about it, the concept of a medical specialist is both an advantage and a terrible disadvantage. The obvious advantage is their great cumulative experience in for example performing arthroscopic knee or neuroma surgery. The disadvantage is that the specialist quickly concludes you need the kind of procedure they are trained to deliver, so if you see a podiatrist for neuroma pain between your toes, you’re first going to get a steroid shot, and when the pain comes back, that nerve will treated using alcohol injections or surgery. You will learn that the nerve is caught between your metatarsals, but you will not learn why, and that’s the major disadvantage of the specialist. You'll be missing out on less traumatic, less expensive and more effective solutions.

Drug it or remove it is a solution, but why not insist on getting to know and treat the root cause? Why are your knees hurting? Why not adopt the engineering perspective of cause and effect? The opposing rotating motion of your hips and feet when walking caused a torque in your knees which ultimately fractured your meniscus. You may need meniscus surgery, but without addressing the root cause, you’ll re-injure.

On this site you can learn about the relationship between your feet and your posture and body mechanics. If you have neuroma pain, the pain you experience is just a symptom of a bigger problem. The foot mechanics that causes the neuroma also has serious implications for your knees, hips, back and other parts of your body.

Checking your foot mechanics is quick and easy, and if you conclude that you have a problem, correcting it is simple and inexpensive.
